EJOT unveil ‘light-weight alloy to high strength steel’ EJOWELD process at Newcastle Exhibition

EJOT UK chose the Manufacturing & Engineering North East Exhibition to unveil its much talked about EJOWELD® assembly process. Application Engineers occupied Stand A2 at MENE, which took place at the Metro Radio Arena, Newcastle on July 8th and 9th.

Five years in development, the system has been driven by the need for lighter vehicles. High strength / light weight materials cannot be secured effectively by means of a traditional self pierce rivet. The EJOWELD® process creates a high strength fix – typically between light alloys to boron steel. A sophisticated friction weld system deploys specially developed components to secure structure of assembly.

The EJOT team used a customised demo-rig at the July Exhibition; the system’s first official UK viewing. No sparks or flash are generated and the process creates very little noise whilst localising heat generation. Visitors were able to inspect the two specially created EJOT components that are key to the process; a pin which enables single-sided fixing, and a rivet requiring double sided access.
 
Whilst EJOWELD® took centre stage, the team were still able to promote all EJOT® threadforming technology, designed to achieve cost reduction through more efficient fastening and parts rationalisation.
