The Diamond Synchrotron Light Source Centre is the largest scientific facility to be built in the UK for thirty years. Light from Diamond will be tapped off at many (up to 30) points around the ring and directed to experimental stations called beamlines. Scientists from many disciplines will study a range of scientific problems in their quest for new materials, new medicines and an answer to a variety of
environmental issues.

The building is due to be completed in late 2005 and the commencement of operations with the first seven beamlines in January 2007. Diamond is expected to operate for twenty years or more with an annual build-up of beamlines to its full complement over a period of five years.

Hampshire based roofing and cladding contractor, Lakesmere chose EJOT®’s stainless steel Super SAPHIR® JT3-X-2-6.0 x 36 as the ideal fastener for fixing Kalzip ST clips to light section steel. Their decision to do this was also greatly influenced by reputation for engineered product, quality, service and international reputation.

Lakesmere’s Andy Rolfe explained, "Super - SAPHIR® matched Corus criteria making it specific to the application of fastening the Kalzip aluminium standing seam roofing system to light section steel. EJOT® are a global manufacturing group which means worldwide technical back-up. They were quite simply able to provide everything we needed for such a critical project, including a 25 year guarantee".

EJOT ® Super SAPHIR® fasteners are manufactured from grade 304 austenitic stainless steel, with welded carbon steel drill points and leading threads. This enables effective drilling and tapping at high speed providing maximum performance. They are zinc coated for aesthetic reasons and waxed to lubricate the surface during installation.
