Developing markets require original thinking

EJOT's flat roofing fixings range can certainly stand by the claim to be "changing the way the industry thinks". This review demonstrates how this product range leads the way in forward thinking.

The rapid development of polymer technology has resulted in a variety of single ply membrane systems for flat roofing projects. Each system provides distinct benefits whether the application is for new build or more usually, refurbishment. These advantages span from the obvious continuous waterproofing properties through to the ability to support new technologies like solar photovoltaic systems.

A new approach

Recognising that polymer roofing membranes provide so many key properties driven by environmental and sustainability directives, EJOT were the first to realise that any reliance on historical fixing methods would in the long term be counter-productive. That meant developing a brand new range of fasteners and washers using a variety of materials. The objective was to reduce the overall number of components required for installation, provide faster more secure installation, using components that enhanced the properties of the membrane itself.

Vital test data

The result is an unrivalled range that has official approval from every main continental system manufacturer and test report data available across the board. Here in the UK, EJOT was instrumental in gaining technical approval for the use of 50mm washers – a big step forward. Until that point the industry had chosen to use 70mm washers simply because that is what contractors were ‘used to using’ and they were provided with no specialist data-backed alternative.

The EJOT flat roofing range is built on a ‘one type of combination for most flat roofing applications’ framework. Reduced components leads directly to cost-efficiency; less components means reduced installation time and fewer products to order. EJOT’s knowledge and manufacturing capability means each component plays its part in using thermal-break technology to minimise cold bridging. Screw head protrusion caused through footfall is also eliminated through unique component design.

EJOT's forward thinking in this area is endorsed by the company’s associate membership to SPRA - the Single Ply Roofing Association, the UK authority on polymeric waterproofing.
