HTK 2G 75mm tubewasher passes strength test on Berkshire care home

EJOT’s HTK 2G 75mm diameter tube washer for part-adhered systems has received positive feedback from roofing contractor GWB Roofing, based in Chippenham. Appointed by the Royal Wootton Bassett building firm R. J. Leighfield and Sons, GWB were tasked with the installation of a part mechanically fixed flat roof system, with single ply membrane adhered to the surface.
The Foster’s Lane Care Home near Reading, provides 34 self-contained apartments and the roofing areas requiring waterproof membrane protection are significant. GWB opted for an Alwitra Evalon-v membrane with Kingspan insulation secured to a plywood deck. HTK 2G 75 is manufactured by EJOT using the latest polyethylene which provides increased strength and enables the tube to be made in a broader range of lengths.
Historically, a mix of tried and tested fixings would have been normal procedure, but GWB’s Managing Director Barry Barker, had been introduced to EJOT’s HTK 2G 75mm tube washer at a contractor’s conference. EJOT’s Kevin Rackley explained: “Having the product to hand allowed me to explain key benefits; load resistance, minimal cold-bridging, known-performance data to name a few. But the real proof is when a customer takes the product to application”.
Barry Barker takes up the review: “It’s a well worn phrase, but EJOT’s 75mm tube washer did exactly what it says on the tin! We generally prefer to locate the sleeve within the insulation before fastening to the deck and the tube washer proved to be very strong, very robust. In fact, we used hammers to drive the tubes to insulation depth such is the product’s strength. That meant a very fast and secure installation in addition to the HTK’s lifetime performance benefits”.
GWB Roofing has recently become a member of the Single Ply Roofing Trade Association and EJOT’s technical team were able to advise Barry’s team on all aspects of installation, based on SPRA’s own guidelines for this type of system. Barry Barker said: “There were no hitches, and no problems switching to a new product – we were well briefed in advance and Kevin made several site visits to ensure installation went smoothly. We will use the HTK 2G 75 again, without hesitation”.
