EJObar's versatility passes University test with distinction

A significant Solar PV installation on to 4,000m², five storey academic building at the University of Bedfordshire. The new building designed by architects RMJM, provides state-of-the-art teaching space, conference, IT and recreational facilities.

The highly sustainable build includes 300m² high efficiency mono-crystalline photovoltaics mounted at an incline of 10° on the plant room roof and 2 heat pumps providing 263kW of heating and 228kW of cooling, served by a ground source borehole system. These technologies offset in excess of 20% of the carbon emissions of the building.

Welwood Special Projects specified a K2 Solar PV Module System to be installed on to a Soprema UK ‘Flag’ single ply roofing membrane. Consultation with Soprema UK followed by compatibility / weld-strength testing resulted in a positive approval for EJObar.

Approved Soprema UK membrane installers hot welded the 3 metre EJObars into position, creating a penetrative-free fixing base on which to install the K2 system. The contractors have also utilised the EJObars with great effect, as a carrier system for mechanical and electrical ancillaries such as electrical cable trays and pipework.
