Online Prognosis trims £200k from development budget
Following the successful introduction of EJOT's Delta PT screw into significant thermosplastic application, designers working on the defence led projects have quickly discovered the added value of working with our Application Engineers.
Having already established significant materials savings whilst improving joints strength when compared to traditional "nut and bolt" alternatives, a smaller and even more intricate version of the assembled unit, including some highly complex electronics, was conceptualised.
Successful solution creates new design brief
When the development project was conceived, funds were reserved to establish the design and prove its viability through the prototype manufacturing process. An acceptable amount of five prototype runs were budgeted for, however, having only just recognised the value of the PT screw itself, the design team were unaware of EJOT's unique online prognosis program; DeltaCalc.
Developed at our AppliTEC testing laboratories in Germany, the program utilises fastener dimensioning to give an online analysis and also assists in calculating load carrying capabities. DeltaCalc also provides lifetime and durability forecasting under imposed conditions like temperature stress and static stress.
Ahead of schedule... and under budget!
By utilising the DeltaCalc prognosis programme at this specific stage, the design was finalised without the need for so many prototype runs. This saving, coupled with the saving in prototype development time allowed the unit to go to approval stage ahead of schedule and bought the project development home, under budget by around £200,000,00.
