Apollo Nivy: Anchoring Sustainability in the Heart of Bratislava

Since 2017, Slovakia’s capital has been watching a visionary transformation take shape: the modern Nové Nivy district. This innovative urban hub seamlessly weaves a state-of-the-art transportation infrastructure together with vibrant commercial hubs, lush green spaces, and recreational facilities.

Standing as a centrepiece of this district is the Apollo Nivy office building. While its striking architectural lines catch the eye, its innovative facade is securely anchored behind the scenes by EJOT’s CROSSFIX® consoles.

Redefining the Workplace: Buildings as an Experience

The philosophy behind Apollo Nivy challenges the status quo of corporate architecture: “Just as home is not just a place where you sleep, work is also not just an office.” By blurring the boundaries between work and life, the building was designed not merely for function, but as an immersive experience.

Behind a window-rich exterior lies nearly 48,000 square meters of premium office space spread across eight floors. Inside, the design breathes life into the corporate environment. Ample wood, organic shapes, indoor water features, and lush greenery bask in abundant natural light, blurring the line between the indoor comfort and the outdoor world.

This dedication to naturalness and well-being stems from a core belief held by the project’s planners: healthy, content employees deliver outstanding results. Therefore, every detail was engineered to elevate the human experience. The building optimises everything from air and water quality to precise lighting conditions, physical activity spaces, and a deep-rooted connection to nature.

Even the daily commute was reimagined. The Nové Nivy site boldly prioritises bicycle traffic over cars. Apollo Nivy integrates directly into the city's cycling network and boasts a ground-floor bicycle centre. This dedicated hub accommodates 200 bicycles and features a service area, cleaning facilities, and showers for commuting cyclists.

Engineering Elegance: Meeting Elite Sustainability Standards

A building this visionary demands credentials to match. The Apollo Nivy project is actively pursuing the prestigious WELL Platinum and BREEAM Outstanding certifications—accolades reserved exclusively for the world's most sustainable, energy-efficient structures.

To cross this high threshold, the architects needed a solution that paired uncompromising energy efficiency with absolute flexibility when fastening the building's ALUCOBOND® facade panels. EJOT’s CROSSFIX® substructure system was the natural choice.

Crafted from high-grade stainless steel, the CROSSFIX® system dramatically minimises thermal bridges. This results in significantly improved U-values compared to traditional aluminium consoles. Furthermore, because stainless steel boasts a vastly superior load-bearing capacity, fewer consoles were required overall. This reduction decreased material consumption, boosting both energy efficiency and optimising the overall carbon footprint of the building materials.

Form Meets Function: Navigating a Dynamic Facade

Architecturally, the facade of Apollo Nivy is a dance of diverse elements, characterised by varying heights in the horizontal panel stripes and a dynamic rhythm of projecting and recessed features. Translating this complex visual concept into structural reality was made possible by the extensive variety of the CROSSFIX® product line.

To secure the complex exterior, installers utilised consoles ranging from standard 260 mm lengths up to the system’s maximum dimension of 400 mm. These heavy-duty components were strategically deployed to maximise load-bearing efficiency while maintaining cost-effectiveness

True to the principle of "everything from a single supplier," the CROSSFIX® consoles are anchored deep into the building substrate using EJOT's trusted SDF facade anchors. To link the support profiles to the consoles, teams used EJOT VARIO screws, which masterfully accommodate both sliding and fixed-point connections.

Equipped with a captive, pre-assembled sliding washer and an integrated buffer zone, these screws prevent excessive pre-stressing forces during installation. Thanks to a specialised fine-pitch thread, the system maintains a constant, low contact pressure, completely eliminating the stick-slip effect.

The Power of Collaboration: Global Expertise, Local Presence

The "single source" philosophy at EJOT extends far beyond the hardware. Behind the scenes, products are meticulously engineered to complement one another, backed by seamless international collaboration.

While customer support and direct engagement with planners and architects were spearheaded locally by EJOT SLOVAKIA, the project planning phase drew on the collective mastermind of EJOT colleagues in Austria and Croatia.

This structure gave the clients the best of both worlds: the simplicity of a single, local point of contact, backed by the formidable expertise of an international network of specialists. That seamless synergy is the true hallmark of EJOT.
