Compliance is an investment, not a cost

When a component in a construction project fails to meet specified requirements, the consequences can be significant: installations may need to be redone, timelines are affected, and costs can quickly rise.

In construction projects, the visible elements often receive the most attention: the façade, the architecture, and the finished building. But behind every structure are components that often go unnoticed, the ones that remain invisible and continue to carry their load year after year. We are, of course, talking about fixings, the component that holds every building together.

These types of fixings play a crucial role in ensuring that a structure performs as intended. Therefore, it is essential that their performance has been tested and verified. Technical Compliance is often associated with documentation, certificates, verified performance data or declarations of performance, and formal requirements. In practice, however, the work begins long before these are ever issued.

Behind every approval are tests, technical evaluations, and verifications that ensure fixings can be selected to meet the loads and requirements they will face in real structures. CE marking with a European Technical Assessment (ETA) plays a central role here for products not covered by a Harmonised European Standard (hEN).

CE marking via an ETA provides the product with a declaration of performance by verifying its capabilities, giving engineers, architects, and contractors a reliable basis when specifying and using fixings in projects.

ETA CE Marking creates confidence

When a product is CE marked, it is backed up by verified performance data. For engineers, this means that dimensioning can be based on documented values and calculations rather than assumptions. This creates confidence during the design phase and makes it possible to plan structures with greater precision. At the same time, it gives architects and designers assurance that the technical solutions behind the design are tested and reliable.

With ETA-based CE marking, designers gain access to verified information such as:
  • Load-bearing capacity
  • Areas of use and installation conditions
  • Performance under different conditions

The result is a smoother transition from design to actual construction.

Performance documents reduce risk

During the execution phase of a construction project, time and clarity are critical. Deliveries must function, installations must be approved, and the project must move forward without unnecessary interruptions.

Products with documented performance and technical approvals reduce uncertainty in these stages. When fixings are already tested and verified according to European standards, they can be installed and inspected with greater confidence.

This reduces the risk of:
  • Project delays
  • Redesign or additional investigations
  • Uncertainty regarding product performance in the structure

An investment in safety and long-term reliability
Technical Compliance is not just about meeting regulations; it is about safety. Creating reliable structures that will stand the test of time.

Every component in a building becomes part of a larger infrastructure: a school, a hospital, a bridge, or a home. Therefore, it is essential that each product performs as promised throughout the entire lifespan of the structure. Through technical verification, testing, and documented performance, the trust required between manufacturers, engineers, and contractors is established.

To summarise, technical compliance goes beyond documentation and certificates. Behind every technical approval are tests, evaluations, and verifications that ensure fixings can withstand the loads and conditions they encounter in real structures.

Through CE marking via a European Technical Assessment (ETA), a declaration of performance is established, giving engineers and designers access to verified performance data. This creates engineering peace of mind and allows for confident designs with reduced risk. The result is better decision-making, smoother project execution, and more reliable structures.
