EJOT ALtracs® Plus screws are thread-forming fasteners developed for maximum strength values in light alloy assemblies and other non-ferrous metals such as zinc, copper or brass. Designed for direct assembly into cast holes, the ALtracs® Plus enables significant cost savings to be realised compared to metric screws through its ability to reduce the number of work steps, such as thread cutting. ALtracs® Plus builds on the original ALtracs® screw, offering improved technical capabilities and achieving strength values which are comparable to metric screw joints of the strength category 10.9.
To achieve the desired technical performance goals with ALtracs® Plus, EJOT provides an online design tool – the EJOT ALtra CALC® prognosis programme. This has been developed using the mechanical parameters of many thousands of applications and test assemblies, making it a valuable tool for the pre-dimensioning of direct assemblies into light metal. The software contains the fastening parameters of the ALtracs® Plus screw according to the choice of material and pilot hole dimension, enabling significant time and cost savings during the design phase of a component.
EJOT’s design support extends further during your development stages through our CAE services. With the help of innovative calculation and simulation tools we can estimate the behaviour and effect of our fastening elements on your proposed component under various loads. This enables us to give you respective recommendations that you can depend on. For example, we can calculate the clamp load relaxation of individual screw joints and also to analyse the behaviour of the complete assembly. More...
The thread geometry plays an important role for direct assembly into light metal as the different material strength properties of steel and light metal require a special design of the steel screw. ALtracs® Plus features a 33° screw flank angle which forms a considerably stronger female thread compared to more typical 60° threads. As a result, the female thread in the weaker light metal material is strengthened by the larger thread root, resulting in a balanced strength ratio. The asymmetric thread flank results in optimal material displacement and it creates a large thread engagement area. Ultimately, this thread geometry allows a higher loading of every single turn of thread so the fastener reaches the failure criterion screw fracture at clearly shorter insertion depths.
The design of ALtracs® Plus also optimises safety during assembly. The resulting low installation and high failure torques of the ALtracs® Plus facilitate a broad range for secure installation with simple pneumatic and electric drivers. Torque and torque angle controlled tightening processes are also possible beyond yield strength of the screw as the failure mode stripping or screw fracture can be specified. The circular cross section, in combination with various installation depths (1 to 2,5 x d), allows a high degree of flexibility in the choice of the appropriate fastening system. The sharp thread flanks of ALtracs® Plus in conjunction with the non-circular thread forming zone enable centred alignment and easy tightening of the screw even in cast holes.
